I love writing! Read my Blogs. They are a selection of my Newspaper Columns that I have been writing weekly for over twenty years.
‘God and Religion Don’t Mix‘ is my favourite book. It’s a collection of over 60 of those columns published in a number of Northern Irish weeklies, mainly the Larne Times.
The title of the book was inspired by an epiphany I had a decade or more ago; it wasn’t the wicked Romans or cruel soldiers who had Jesus crucified, it was the religious leaders of his day.
Why? They needed to have him removed because he undermined all they stood for; self-rightousness. They built their reputation and status by observing over 600 rules and regulations, mostly man-made. And then Jesus said, ‘A new command I give you: Love one another.’
But it wasn’t another commandment, it replaced all the others, and so they were doomed. Read Matthew 23 and you’ll see what he thought of them, although he loved them.
That’s my story, my raison d’etre.
